Project Manager

Burger Consulting Group is looking to expand their PMO team and is in need of a seasoned Project Manager/Consultant who will be a key player with our client initiatives. The role is responsible for the day-to-day management of client IT related projects which range from assessments and strategy projects to selection and implementations. The ideal candidate will act as the client’s advocate while collaborating with the software vendors and the Burger Consulting team to ensure client expectations and milestones are met and deliverables are provided on a professional and timely basis. The expectation is that, through strong interpersonal skills, open communication, and a balanced approach, the Project Manager will lead a team to meeting expectations and develop strong client relations. ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Location: Chicago, IL – Remote


  • BA/BS degree in Project Management, Business Technology or related education (e.g. PMP certificate, Scrum)
  • Knowledge of PM software tools (MS Project, MS Teams, Mavenlink or similar)
  • 5+ years of experience as an IT Project Manager or similar
  • Previous understanding of company process assessment, software selection and deployment of ERP, CRM, PM and HR preferred
  • 3+ years within the Construction Industry or similar preferred but not necessary
  • 3+ years in a Professional Services Industry preferred
  • Must live in the Continental United States due to travel requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as a primary point of contact with clients on projects
  • Plan, define and implement project scope, goals and deliverables
  • Optimize the use of the consulting team, keeping projects running efficiently by developing and monitoring project schedules
  • Control planning and execution of the project’s activities and resources to ensure established cost, time and quality goals are met
  • Create and maintain project budgets, keeping track of hours invested, keeping the project on target
  • Negotiation and development of a work order or change order when projects extend outside of the original scope of work
  • Work with cost accountant on budgets and forecasts
  • Develop and execute system test cases, expected results, scripts and plans
  • Conduct user acceptance testing, identify issues and recommend solutions
  • Track personal time/expenses; manage and approve time and expenses for outside contracting resources in the time and expense tracking solution.
  • Implementing change in direction when necessary to meet project objectives
  • Capable of running team meetings, status calls, and specialized meetings around issue resolution
  • Work with BCG consulting team and third-party consultants to ensure optimal project staffing
  • Effective communication around the project to consultants, vendors and clients alike
  • Draft and finalize (with administrative support) critical project documents like meeting minutes, status reports, and other project correspondence as necessary
  • Provide reports on progress, along with concerns and solutions to clients
  • Problem-solving skills are critical to the position: identifying issues, testing solution ideas and executing on successful ideas are all part of the job. The position provides latitude to make decisions and act on them for the benefit of the project
  • Coordinate support resources as needed
  • Work with Project Administrator on call coordination, meeting coordination, on-site logistics
  • Conduct R&D on internal Burger Consulting Group projects and facilitate in development meetings as appropriate

Additional Requirements:

  • Ample understanding of software for core business process (e.g. ERP, PM, CRM, ECM, and HR solutions)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel while effectively balancing priorities
  • Experience with project management best practices/ methodologies/ project lifecycle ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬techniques‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
  • Skilled in strategic planning, risk management and change management
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Calm and professional demeanor ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
  • Excellent decision-making skills and leadership capabilities
  • Ability to resolve conflict when necessary

  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong use of Microsoft Office Suite, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and the ability to produce presentations, BI, reports and information for management ‬‬‬‬‬‬
  • Use of Mavenlink, MS Teams or similar PM application
  • Available up to three days per week on average for travel to client and/or vendor offices with the possibility that a full week out could occur from time to time*
  • Remote position is considered

*Travel has been reduced, but not eliminated, due to the pandemic.
